Tequila is a Mexican spirit made from the agave plant. It has a long history and has been used in many different ways. Today, tequila is most commonly consumed as a shot or in a cocktail.

Whether you’re sipping it neat, on the rocks, or in a Margarita, there’s no doubt that tequila is one of the most popular spirits around. And what better day to enjoy a refreshing cocktail of tequila than on National Tequila Day?

There are many different types of tequila cocktails, each with its own unique flavor. Therefore, in honor of this special day, we’ve put together a list of fun cocktails made with tequila that you may not have known.

DO THE SAMBA

Shake it, twirl it, spice it, make it - we’re talking about the drink, of course - though it would work for a little dance too. 

Fruity - sweet - tangy - spicy

Ingredients:

• Tequila - 60ml / 2oz
• Lime juice - 22.5ml / 0.75oz
• Mango syrup - 22.5ml / 0.75oz
• Salt - 1 pinch
• Red chili powder - 1 pinch

Glass:

Coupe

Garnish:

Mango slice and Thyme sprig

Method:

Build

Steps:

Add all the ingredients in a mixing glass, add ice mix well

Strain in a chilled coupe glass

Garnish with mango slice and thyme sprig.

COOL AS A CUCUMBER

Yeah we’re talking about that cool suave, the flirty smile and gentle wit. You’ll get all of that and more - promise! Light up the room!

Fresh - cool - hint of spice

Ingredients:

• Tequila - 60ml / 2oz
• Lime juice - 22.5ml / 0.75oz
• Agave syrup - 15ml / 0.5oz
• Cucumber - 3 slice
• Jalapenos  - 3 slice

Glass:

Old fashioned 

Garnish:

Cucumber and Jalapenos slice

Steps:

Add cucumber, jalapenos slice in a cocktail shaker and muddle lightly then add other ingredients into the cocktail shaker, add ice shake well

Strain in an ice-filled old-fashioned glass

Garnish with cucumber and jalapenos slice.

MEXICAN SUNSET

Vivid - strong - fruit & spice

Ingredients:

• Tequila - 45ml / 1.5oz
• Aperol - 15ml / 0.5oz
• Orange juice - 45ml / 1.5oz
• Lime juice - 22.5ml / 0.75oz
• Orange syrup - 15ml / 0.5oz

Glass:

Coupe

Garnish:

Orange wedge + rosemary(opt)

Steps:

Add all the ingredients in a mixing glass, add ice mix well

Strain in a chilled coupe glass

Garnish with orange peel.

FERNANDO

Fruity - aromatic

Ingredients:

• Tequila - 60ml / 2oz
• Angostura bitter - 1 dash
• Lime juice - 22.5ml / 0.75oz
• Raspberry syrup - 15ml / 0.5oz
• Orgeat syrup - 15ml / 0.5oz

Glass:

Old fashioned 

Garnish:

Mint sprig and Fresh Raspberry

Steps:

Add all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker, add ice shake well

Strain it over crushed ice filled old fashioned glass

Garnish with mint sprig and raspberry.

TEQUILA SUNRISE

Ingredients:

• Tequila - 45ml / 1.5oz
• Aperol - 15ml / 0.5oz
• Lime juice - 15ml / 0.5oz
• Grapefruit juice - 45ml / 1.5oz
• Agave syrup - 22.5ml / 0.75oz.
• Soda water - 60ml / 2oz

Garnish:

Grapefruit wheel

Steps:

Add all the ingredients (except soda water) in a mixing glass, add ice mix well

Strain in an ice filled collins glass, top up with soda water and give a stir

Garnish with grapefruit wheel.

Ingredients:

• Tequila - 45ml / 1.5oz
• Orange liqueur - 15ml / 0.5oz
• Lime juice - 15ml / 0.5oz
• Watermelon  juice - 30ml / 1oz
• Salt - 1 pinch

Glass:

Old fashioned

Garnish:

Watermelon slice

Method:

Shaken

Steps:

Add all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker, add ice shake well

Strain into an ice filled and salt rimmed old fashioned glass

Garnish with watermelon slice.
